The Safe Sippy 2 - Clean in / Clean out

The durable Stainless Steel Sippy, free from BPA, Phthalates, and PVC

Meet The all new Safe Sippy 2 stainless steel drinking cup from Kid Basix - one small step in creating a less toxic world for our children. The Safe Sippy 2 cup breaks away from the all-plastic sippy cup designs of the past. From the clean, non-leaching stainless steel cup to the unique safety features to the plastics free of Bisphenol A and other harmful chemicals. The Safe Sippy cup was created to accomplish one simple goal: Clean In, Clean Out.

Kid Basix thought carefully about every feature while they were designing the Safe Sippy 2. The most important issue of all was safety. So it's not surprising that the first thing people ask is, "How come the cap is plastic?" The answer is simple: No child (or adult, for that matter) wants to suck on a stainless steel straw. It hurts our teeth just thinking about it.

Kid Basix did the next best thing with the Safe Sippy 2. They kept contact between water and plastic to a minimum, and they insisted that all their plastics be certified free of Bisphenol A, phthalates and DEHA. Kid Basix pay for extensive independent laboratory testing on their cups to make sure they are free of these chemicals. Lastly, the Safe Sippy 2 cap is made out of Polypropylene, #5 plastic. PP is the most stable of all plastics. For more details on the Safe Sippy 2 please see our FAQ.

  • Straw and Straw Adapter When your child decides he or she is just "too big" for a Sippy, the Safe Sippy 2 can be instantly converted into a straw bottle with the straw and straw adapter. Just put the straw adapter in and presto! You've turned your sippy into a straw bottle.

  • Travel Plug To carry your Safe Sippy 2 in a handbag of nappy bag, take the sippy valve or straw adapter out and replace it with the opaque orange travel plug. With the travel plug in liquid will not leak out of your cup.

  • Dust Cap The dust cap is designed to help keep the spout clean when not in use. It does a fine job of protecting the spout from gunky stuff that might be lurking in your nappy bag, under the car seat residing on your dogs tongue. We just didn't think 'gunk cap' had a very nice ring to it.

  • The Body The Safe Sippy body is the most important element of the cup. Made of durable and light weight grade #304 stainless steel, the 11oz Safe Sippy is non-leaching and toxin free. No endocrine disruptors or oestrogen simulators. No Bisphenol A. No chemicals suspected of contributing to early this or latent that. Unlike plastic sippys it's safe to put the Safe Sippy in the dishwasher. You can even leave water in the cup overnight, in a hot car or in the sun in the park without having to refill it with clean water. Not that we recommend that - kids don't like drinking warm water any more than we do. The bottom line is this. Stainless Steel is safe. So now you can rest easy knowing that your child is using the Safe Sippy. What you put in is what they get out. Nothing more. Nothing else.

  • The Handles: The handles help little hands hold onto the cup. Once your child is old enough to grip the bottle using the tapered waist the handles can be removed. And when little hands are covered in apple puree, from when they take that leap of independence and decide that they can feed themselves the nubs make it easier to grip the handles....Did we mention they are removable?

  • Thermoplastic Rubber Sleeve: The rubbery sleeve surrounding the cup is made of thermo plasticized rubber, or TPR. The TPR material provides insulation when you put cold liquids into the cup on hot summer days. It also makes it easier for your child to grip the cup. And when your child drops their Safe Sippy, it also acts as a cushion to protect the stainless steel.... and your toes, should you be barefoot around your 2 year old. Just another reason it's called the Safe Sippy!

  • The Spout: Recent research by speech development experts has found that wide drinking spouts, commonly found on many sippy cups, can cause physical and speech development problems in children. Their findings suggest that straw-shaped spouts are better for developing mouths. So that's how Safe Sippy have designed it. The no leak valve inside the spout is made of clean, non-toxic silicone. When children suck on the Safe Sippy spout water flows, when they don't, it doesn't.

  • The Lid: The lid has been designed so that it is slightly larger than the cup. If (when!) your child drops the Safe Sippy the lip of the lid will protect the stainless steel body from denting. The lid is made of polypropylene (#5 plastic) and is completely free of phthalates and BPA.

  • The Waist: The Safe Sippy has a tapered waist, and ribbing on the top of the sleeve. Both of these features help little hands hold the cup once your child insists they are to big for the handles.
