Safety

Our children's amber jewellery has been made with safety in mind, each bead has been individually knotted to ensure that should a necklace or anklet break, the beads will not spill.

Little Acorns to Mighty Oaks have had their Baltic amber jewellery independently tested in the UK by an accredited laboratory. Our Baltic amber jewellery has been tested for chemicals and heavy metals, and passes EN71-3:2013.

At Little Acorns to Mighty Oaks we only use safety pop clasps on our children's necklaces. These are smooth plastic barrel clasps with a pop mechanism for securing the necklace, we do not use magnets in any of our clasps. The safety pop clasps are designed to release under pressure and will come open instantly if the necklace is caught on anything.

The safety pop clasps used on our necklaces have been independently tested by a 3rd party laboratory through our manufacturer and pass LST EN71-1:2011 5.14 (tension test). To pass this test the clasp is required to release automatically under a tension of 27 Newtons (6 Pounds) - the result being that if the necklace is caught on anything the clasp will break away rather than the string breaking, meaning no beads are lost, and the necklace can still continue to be used.

Our necklaces and anklets are not toys and are not sold with the intention of beign used as toys. EU Toy safety regulations EN-71-1 states necklaces and anklets are not suitable to use as toys for children under 36 months.

Baltic Amber is a fossilised resin (not a stone) and can crack under pressure if stepped on chewed. Never let a child chew on the beads as this will cause them to break. Regularly inspect your Amber jewellery for cracked or broken beads. Always remove Amber jewlellery from your child when they are sleeping and keep well our to reach when not in use. Always use under careful supervision.

About the Baltic Amber We Use

At Little Acorns to Mighty Oaks we have been retailing beautiful Baltic Amber jewellery since 2008 and in our 6 1/2 years of retail in Baltic Amber we have continuously used the same trusted supplier, who supplies us with Certified Genuine Natural Baltic Amber.

All of our amber jewellery is made from the highest quality baroque, candy and rounded beads of Certified Genuine Natural Baltic Amber. Baroque beads are softly rounded, irregular beads of Amber that sit gently against the skin, with no risk of scratching or digging into the skin.

The certified genuine Baltic Amber used to make our amber jewellery is Baltic Amber which has undergone mechanical treatment only, for example grinding, cutting, turning or polishing without any change to its natural properties. We do not use Reconstructed or Bonded amber (amber that has been heated and pressed).

How to Use your Child's Baltic Amber

Baltic Amber needs to be in contact with the skin, please ensure that you have the correct fit for your child with our anklets and necklaces - the necklaces should not hang over clothing, but should sit high about the neckline in contact with the skin - please see our fitting guide below. If you find that the necklace or anklet you have ordered from us is too large please let us know as we are more than happy to exchange for a smaller size.

It is important that Baltic Amber is never chewed on - Baltic Amber is a fossilised tree resin, which can break under pressure. Necklaces should not be able to reach into the mouth when worn, and the jewellery should never be played with when not in use.

Always remove amber jewellery from your child while they are sleeping, and keep it well out of reach of your child while not in use.

Caring For Your Baltic Amber

We recommend that Baltic Amber jewellery is removed when swimming in chlorinated water to help preserve the durability of the thread. We also recommend that you avoid getting any moisturisers or creams on the amber beads.

To clean your Baltic Amber simply wash with warm water and a mild soap, then dry with a soft cloth, rubbing each bead individually to help remove any build up or film from the beads.

Never place your Baltic Amber directly on a heat source (such as a radiator), as this can cause the beads to become brittle. Never rub any kind of oil on your Baltic amber, as this will create a barrier on them, making them less effective.

Ensure that you regularly inspect your necklace for broken beads or worn thread.

Choosing Your Necklace Size

Choosing Your Necklace Size

When fitting for a necklace it is important to ensure that the necklace can NOT be comfortably pulled over the chin and into the mouth, as Baltic amber should never be chewed on. Getting the correct length also ensures that the necklace has contact with the skin (which if most effective) instead of sitting over top of clothing, and prevents it getting caught on anything or being played with. To measure for a necklace use a piece of string to measure where the necklace should sit (on the collar bone is a good fit) then measure the piece of string to determine the length required.

Choosing Your Anklet Size

Please measure your child's ankle each time you buy a new anklet to ensure you choose the correct size, using the guide below:

  1. Use a soft tape measure or piece of ribbon and a ruler.
  2. Take a snug measurement of your child's ankle (ie no gap between skin and tape measure).
  3. If required round up to the nearest 0.5cm measurement on our guide below (e.g if ankle measures 11.3cm round up to 11.5cm).
  4. DO NOT ADD any further cm's to the measurement.
  5. Choose the size of anklet required corresponding to the snug ankle measurement taken using the table below.

PLEASE NOTE We will calculate the extra length required to ensure you receive an anklet which will fit perfectly - anklets measure approx 1cm longer than snug ankle measurement .

For the anklets we offer a choice of both pop and screw clasp, which is down to personal choice - our personal preference her at Little Acorns to Mighty Oaks HQ is for the pop clasps, which we use with both our children. They are very secure, and so much easier to take on and off wriggly children than the screw clasps!
