The Mader family business, owned and operated by Klaus and Margit Mader, was founded in 1991 in Austria.
Mader Kreiselmanufaktur creates all of their toys exclusively by hand in Austria from a variety of native European woods. Classical wood turning techniques are used, as are more technically difficult methods, such as overhead reaming and undercutting. Their toys include a wonderful range of spinning tops, yoyo's and skipping ropes.
Of all the spinning tops currently available, those of Klaus and Margit Mader from Austria are by far the nicest collection on the market today. Their spinning tops are made in up to 20 work stages, the tops are turned, burned, embossed, carved, brushed, painted and varnished. Each top is made from a single piece of wood and is then hand painted in beautiful colour combinations.
Mader’s philosophy with their spinning tops is quite simple. All tops are to be made by hand, suitable as toys for children of all ages, affordable and beautiful to look at. You will easily recognise Mader Tops by the mark on all models - the burned in stripe at the spinning tops equator. Mader Krieiselmanufaktur rates their tops as to how difficult they are to spin, using a scale of 1 to 6, 6 being the hardest.
These toys are simply beautiful, the different colour combinations are stunning, and the shapes so simple and elegant. The spinning tops are so well made that they spin for minutes at a time - such fun, and also pretty just sitting on a shelf.
